Travel – What to bring when you go on trip ?

Travel List by Spongercity

What to bring when you go on a trip ? The question is often asked and although the answer depends on where you’re heading, there’s heaps of things we always need when we leave home, and there’s heaps of things we always forget. Remember that time when you couldnt plug your camera charger because the local plugs were “1 hole different” from the ones you use at home ? Remember last time you lost a fin in the middle of nowhere and couldnt find one to buy ? Remember when you lost your malaria pills on the boat ? Yes you do. And we do as well. So here’s a list you can use as a reminder before you go, we tried to think of everything, but if we forgot any dont hesitate to add more stuff in the comments, and we’ll add them in the “official” list right away.

The list:

  • Passport
  • Driving License and / or International Driving License
  • Plane Tickets
  • Sun Screen if you go somewhere sunny and you think you cant find good sun screen where you go
  • Sun Glasses yes your eyes will appreciate them, and usually the more expensive they are, the most likely they are to get stolen or lost
  • International Electric Plug Adaptor
  • iPod and its wire to charge the battery, yes, we know you forgot it once !
  • Camera or / and video camera
  • Cell phone, only if necessary, and bring the wire to charge it too
  • Money and / or Credit Card and also double check if your CC works abroad and how much you can withdraw, also bring your bank phone # in case you loose your CC or need more info once you’re abroad
  • One or two boards and a good padded board bag
  • Fins + 1 extra fin if you can and if you can’t find any fins where you go (like a boat trip)
  • Extra leash if necessary
  • Some sticky bumps wax and bring the correct temperature one !
  • Wetties bring only the minimum since wetties are heavy. Check the local water temp before you go, and ask the local guys what to bring if you can
  • Towels, or Towel we should say, because towels are heavy and you can find some pretty much anywhere
  • Earplugs if you wear some, yes you always forget them, we know it he he
  • Slaps / Thongs whatever you call them
  • A cap or beanie could be useful if it’s cold or sunny
  • Mosquito repellant if needed
  • Mosquito net if needed as well
  • Email adresses and phone numbers you need
  • Bring a small guide, maps, wave guide if you have one, or even better, only bring a photocopy of the pages you need !
  • Bring a swiss army knife or something like that if you’re out in the wild, or camping
  • Double check your vaccination records
  • Bring a first aid kit if needed
  • Bring condoms
  • Bring all medicines you need, will need, could need. The better prepared you are, the better your trip will be. Bring wide-spectrum antibiotics is a good idea.

Additionnal check list:

  • Check if your luggage (bag + board bag) exceeds 20kgs – if it does, you’re packing too heavy, and most companies will make you paid extra money (if you travel by plane).
  • Bags with wheels roll, of course but they are also heavier.
  • Make sure you packed you boards well, with extra protection on the nose and tail. Dont pack stuff WITH your boards, it will dammage them for sure. Only pack towels with your boards.
  • Always keep your money, camera, iPod, Id, papers, Driving License, your pills or paracetamol / ibuprofene tabs with you in your hand bag. Always consider that your hand bag is all you need to travel. The rest is a bonus… Yes travel companies loose luggage everyday.

Feel free to leave comments and additionnal items to this list, we will add them.
